I love hearing about how people got hooked into scrapbooking, stamping or papercrafting in general. The stories are always so much fun. Most people tell me that their friend, Mom, or co-worker got them interested. I am no different. My Mom has been a crafter for years (sewing mostly) so I think that is where I got my crafty instincts. When I was a freshman in high school one of my friends gave me a scrapbook kit for my birthday (now this was before scrapbooking was all the rage). I started playing with it and have scrapbooks of all four years of high school. When I had my daughter it was only natural that I had to capture all of her precious milestones. It was this love of created keepsakes that "hooked" me to Stampin' Up!
I decided to hold a workshop for my friend who was a demonstrator with Stampin' Up! I could count on one hand the number of times I had picked up a stamp, LOL. After all, I am a scrapbooker, not a stamper (come on, I know some of you have thought the same thing). I just thought it would be a fabulous way to have a ladies night out. I had looked through the catalog but not until about 10 minutes before the workshop so I really had no idea what to expect.
Boy was I in trouble. After each demonstration I learned something new. How to use a tool I had never heard of. How to properly stamp. =) All about paper and cutting. But most of all, how easy stamping is. At the end of the night I jokingly admitted that I should just become a demonstrator because I wanted it all and the only way that would happen was if I got the discount. I couldn't put the catalog down after everyone left. I was hooked.
I signed up to be a Demonstrator a month later. At first I signed up to get the discount. Than as my friends and family heard about my new business they were more excited than I was. You see, I didn't think I could create cards that anyone would like. Remember, I am a scrapbooker =) but I was wrong. I held my first workshop by myself and only four people attended. I was terrified but I shouldn't of been. Those four ladies loved the card we made. Out of those four, two are now on my Blissful Stampers Team and the other two are now avid stampers. Was the card the most beautiful in the world? Hardly. Was it extremely difficult and time consuming? Not at all. So what got these ladies so excited about stamping? It was my passion about doing something I love. They didn't see my fear all they saw was my excitement about stamping.
